Four claim trial to charges related to Bersih rally

KUALA LUMPUR: Three people claimed trial at a Sessions Court here to additional charges of rioting in the recent Bersih 3.0 rally while a fourth pleaded not guilty to charges of causing hurt.

Rasah PKR deputy division chief R. Tangam, 50, PKR Youth exco Farhan Ibrahim @ Alias, 29, and lawyer G.N. Rajesh Kumar, 44, all pleaded not guilty to charges of being members of an illegal group.

They are said to have committed the offence at 3pm on April 28 in Jalan Raja here.

The three were charged under Section 147 of the Penal Code. If convicted, they face up to two years’ jail, fine, or both.

They are said to have committed the offence with more than five other supporters who remain at large.

Tangam, Farhan and Rajesh claimed trial last month to participating in an unlawful assembly under Section 143 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, technician Mohd Safuan Mamat, 24, claimed trial to a charge of causing hurt to TV Al-Hijrah videographer Mohd Azri Mohd Salleh at 3.50pm on April 28 in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman here.

Sessions judge Mahmud Abdullah set Farhan, Rajesh and Tangam’s case mention date for July 2 and Mohd Safuan’s trial date for Sept 4 to 7.
